Seeking Licensure

Announcement:

The ability to apply for and submit a new national NAB exam, or state exam offered on NAB's platform is now available. State jurisdictions now have the ability to review exam applications.  

We anticipate the ability to schedule exams with Pearson Vue will be available by Monday, January 6.

·         If your eligibility to test has expired during the exam window shut down (Dec 15, 2024 to Jan 2, 2025), you will be given an extension once exam applications have been opened on January 3rd. Exam application expiration dates will be updated. There is no need to contact NAB.

State Licensure Requirements

NAB is governed by its members, the state boards and agencies that license long term care administrators. Each state has its own requirements for obtaining an NHA, RCAL, or HCBS license, as well as different requirements for being an AIT or for continuing education once a license is granted.

Please contact your state licensing board for their specific AIT and preceptor requirements.

Please contact the state directly with specific questions. State boards are asked to notify NAB of any changes to their contact or licensure information. As state requirements can change without notice to NAB, candidates should contact their licensing jurisdiction for final confirmation of requirements.

Please note: The national exam fees are the same for all states.

  • Core Exam + NHA Line of Service Exam: $440
  • Core Exam + RCAL or HCBS Exam: $415
  • Core Exam ONLY: $310
  • One Line of Service (NHA, RCAL, or HCBS) Exam ONLY: $185

Effective February 1, 2025  exam fees will increase as follows:

  • CORE & NHA $455
  • CORE & RCAL $455
  • CORE only $320
  • NHA, RCAL, or HCBS Line of Service Only $190
  • State exams $210 or as dictated by the state jurisdiction.
